Frequently Asked Questions

  • Typically, most clients will engage an architect who will help them navigate the requirements of local jurisdiction and draw plans according to their desired outcome. Whether you are building a new custom home, addition, remodel, or ADU, a local architect can assess your situation and be able to tell you what is possible and what the best course of action would be for your specific situation. Once the preliminary drawings are complete, we can give you a rough estimate of construction costs. Then, after the structural drawings and engineering are complete, we can then give you a hard bid on the completed project.

We work with many highly skilled local architects who can help you get started fairly quickly. Reach out and ask us for a recommendation, and we would be happy to help point you in the right direction.

  • Starting from rough drawings to stamped approval, a permit can take 1-6 months for small projects, like a kitchen remodel or addition, and up to a year or longer for larger-scale projects Like custom homes or large additions near waterways, forests, coastlines, or hillsides. Each jurisdiction, property, and design will have many different requirements, fees, and regulations. A knowledgeable architect can help you navigate these local requirements for your goals and property conditions.

  • The duration of your project will depend on a variety of factors but, generally, a small remodel project like a bathroom or kitchen can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months depending on the scope of the project. For medium-sized projects like ADUs or additions, you can expect 4–9 months depending on the size and difficulty of the project. For larger projects, like full home remodels or new custom homes, you can expect the construction process to take anywhere from 9 to 18 months depending on size, scope, and difficulty.

  • Over the past 30 years, we have completed many projects of all sizes, from simple bathroom remodels, additions, and full remodels to dozens of new custom homes ranging from 3000-8000 sq ft. Whether you are looking to freshen up a bathroom or build your dream home with a full basement, we can help you build something you will truly enjoy.

  • Our Estimates have individual categories and descriptions for each phase of construction with two columns for estimated costs and allowances. Estimated costs are hard numbers for a specific scope of work. Allowances are projected unknown costs for an undefined scope of work. Our typical estimate will include all the labor and rough material costs but exclude finish materials like: plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures, windows & exterior doors, cabinets, appliances, hardwood floor material, tile, and stone material, etc.
